Oral Health Tips for Seniors

Posted .

If you’re an older adult who wishes to maintain a top-notch oral health, then our dentist, Dr. Stephen Coker, is more than happy to help you. You deserve a strong and healthy smile for a lifetime! Fortunately, there are things you can do to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. Those things are:

-Keep up on oral hygiene (This should involve brushing twice a day and flossing once a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, and a flossing product that is easy to use.)

-Visit your dentist regularly (You should attend your checkups every six months.)

-Avoid tobacco use (Tobacco attacks and destroys the oral health.)

-Care for your dental appliances (If you have things like dentures and implants, it’s important to follow the cleaning instructions given to you by your dentist.)

-Increase fluoridation (Fluoride helps strengthen the tooth enamel and helps you prevent dental problems.)

-Have a healthy and balanced diet (Try to avoid acidic and sugary foods and beverages as much as possible.)

-Increase oral hydration (Drinking water regularly can help you avoid dry mouth and can frequently wash oral bacteria away.)

-Use antibacterial mouthwash (Antibacterial mouthwash helps kill germs that promote tooth decay and gum disease.)
